Chemistry 110 lab is a “laboratory experience that accompanies General Chemistry I, during which basic laboratory skills and techniques will be developed. Students will also gain first-hand experience with chemical reactions connected to major chemical concepts” (Chemistry 110 Fall Syllabus 2018). Similar to Biology lab, we performed a different experiment per week over the course of fourteen weeks. The concepts of course correlates to our lecture class. Concepts such as balancing equations, BAC tables to determine excess reactions and much more were also applied in lab. We were able to put the math we did in lecture to real life experiments where we could see conversions. Every week we would collect data in order to make a claim about the weeks guiding question. Once a conclusion was reached we would have to interpret the data along with justify it. This course got us ready for Chemistry lab reports, which would be the write up of what we found from that week, an example is below. This step by step process is very similar to what professionals do in the field. This approach also got us in the habit of common lab procedures, as mentioned before. Procedures such as proper waste disposal, proper lab attire, using excel spreadsheets were also practiced.
