Sanstrom – Paper 1 – Final Draft

Sanstrom – Paper 2 – Final Draft

At the beginning of the semester I struggled with integrating ideas. Before this course I haven’t had to use two quotes within one paragraph. Yet, in English 110 we focused on integrating ideas through the use of Barclay’s formula paragraphs. I found that format extremely helpful and used it for every essay practically. Barclay formula paragraphs can be seen all throughout my significant writing piece. In class we focused on attempting to challenge or agree/disagree with the authors work, which can also be seen in my significant writing piece. With my first paper I focus primarily on trying to “prove” one author over the other, yet, by my significant writing piece I was able to disagree, agree and agree with a difference. For example, one of my central themes for my body paragraphs in my first essay stated “For starters, as I mentioned above, Gee believes that it is nearly impossible for anyone to join a societal group through faking it, which I disagree with.” It was a simplistic disagree, which I was able to add complexity to by my second essay. Complexity can be seen by branching off on sub topics thought the paper, adding more levels. And although this isn’t necessarily agreeing with a difference it is clear by my third essay, therefore showing growth.
